In continuation of its knowledge transfer activities, the Connected Learning for Teacher Capacity Building in STEM (CL4STEM) launched Open Education Resource (OER) modules for Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics as well as orientation for Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs) on the use of OER modules. The module launch took place in Kano State on 17th-18th May, 2022 at the Bayero University, Kano (BUK), in Kaduna State on 19th -20th May 2022 at the Kaduna State University (KASU), Kaduna and finally in Niger State on 24th -25th May, 2022 at the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai (IBBUL), Nigeria.
In each state, the opening ceremony of the CL4STEM OER modules and NQTs orientation was attended by the Vice Chancellor/Representative of the host University, Commissioner of Education/Representative, State Ministry of Education Directors of relevant Departments /Boards, State Directors of Nigeria Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) and Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), Principals of project intervention and control schools, and the respective teachers of science and mathematics participating in the project (NQTs) from the intervention and control schools, Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN), and Mathematical Association of Nigeria (MAN) State Chairpersons.
At the sites of CL4STEM OER module launch and during opening ceremonies, Prof Nuhu G. Obaje who is the CL4STEM Project Lead, gave presentations on the overview of CL4STEM project and the status of IBBUL in the Consortium. Remarks and Goodwill message was received virtually from Prof Mith of the Tata Institute of Social Science (TISS), India – the Technical Consultant/Partner of CL4STEM. Remarks on the Curated OERs Modules was given by the CL4STEM Adaptation Team Lead, Prof. A.A. Salihu while remarks on the expected roles of specific stakeholders in the implementation and scaling of the CL4STEM Project in Nigeria was given by the CL4STEM Research Team Lead, Prof. M.T. Mustapha.
The highlights of the module launch opening ceremonies were the remarks and formal e-launch of the OERs subject modules by the vice chancellors of host universities-IBBUL, BUK, and KASU as well as remarks and formal presentation/demonstration of module e- platform access to all stakeholders by the commissioners of education of the respective states and who were the Special Guest of Honour. Remarks and goodwill message were also given by the Executive Directors/ Secretary of Science and Technical Schools’ Boards of the respective states. Goodwill Messages and expressions of commitment and support towards actualization of the CL4STEM project objectives were given by representatives of Principals, Directors, Professional Associations and the NQTs.
